ABOUT THE FARM:

ACME farm is a small family farm raising pastured pork, chicken, beef, and eggs. Our desire is to produce wholesome, nutritious food in a sustainable fashion while improving the soil and providing a reasonable income for our family. While striving for continued improvements in our farming techniques we are constantly aware that we are stewards of the land and animals God has given us. We are not interested in mass marketing our products, but would rather develop a relationship with you. You are invited to come and visit our farm and see the healthy animals.

WHAT IS PASTURED POULTRY?

Pastured poultry is a production system that employs raising chickens directly on pasture. The model has been developed over the last twenty years and allows the birds to receive up to 20% of their feed intake from pasture forage.

HOW DO WE RAISE OUR ANIMALS?

POULTRY:
Our Poultry are raised free range on pasture with shelters that are moved regularly onto fresh grass. The birds have room to run while still having the shelters to give them shade from the sun and protection from the rain. The range area and the shelters are surrounded with mesh to protect the birds from predators.

PORK:
Our pigs are fed a blend of milo, oats and a variety of minerals and protein sources. We mix and grind all of our feeds, using grain we have raised and some purchased. We use a custom blend of probiotic-enhanced, hormone and antibiotic-free ration. When not ranging on pasture, our pigs are supplemented with forages.

BEEF:
Our beeves are raised on native Kansas prairie, fed a variety of forages year-round and like our other animals, are supplemented with probiotic and kelp meal containing numerous trace minerals.

WHY GRASS FED?
When we feed animals their original diet, we are feeding them food that is most in harmony with their digestive system. This naturally produces healthier animals. Meat, milk, and eggs from grass-fed animals supply our bodies with a natural source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, CLA and Beta-Carotene.

Free Range animals produce lean meat that is very dense, tender, juicy and has wonderful flavor. Care must be taken not to over cook the meat since it is very lean. We are proud to provide you with the safest, healthiest meat possible.

EGGS
Our hens are free to roam the pasture during the day and are provided with shelter for the night in an Egg Mobile (hen house on wheels). The hens feel secure laying their eggs in the nesting boxes which are housed within the Egg Mobile. Our hens are protected from predators with an electrified mesh fence that is moved regularly to allow them access to fresh grass. They are fed high quality grains. No chemical wash or sealant is used when cleaning the eggs. Our hens lay brown eggs that have dark yellow yolks that are filled with goodness.

We welcome visitors to the farm, come and see how we raise the food you eat. Please call ahead in order that we can set aside some time to show you around.

ABOUT US:

John and Kellie Thelander and their five children reside in the house built by John's great-grandparents in 1910. They are a fifth generation farm family striving to raise wholesome, nutritious, antibiotic and hormone free, no water-added food. Their five children ranging in age from 4 to 18 are involved in every aspect of the farm, even having their own enterprises. Kajsa, 18, has several dairy cows and is at K-State majoring in Ag-journalism. Jacob, 15, has several dairy cows and has started a boer goat herd. Katie, 11, is raising several varieties of hens for egg production and has her own dairy heifer. Josiah, 7, likes ducks and has a mixed flock of Muscovy's, blue suede, and Indian runners. Klaira, 4, is the head chicken catcher and loves to be involved in everything. Her favorite animal is her donkey, lollipop, who is the star of our petting zoo. All of the children are involved in 4H and like to take their projects to the county fair.
